NEW PROFIT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Our internships are placed in various parts of our organization, but each opportunity offers exposure to an aspect of program, external affairs, or operational management to help you develop skills, knowledge, and relationships that ideally aid your career path. Our summer internship program will be 20-30 hours per week and provides each selected participant an hourly wage that is non-negotiable. We hope you apply! 

ECONOMIC MOBILITY TEAM  OVERVIEW
New Profit’s approach to supporting Economic Mobility is grounded in the organization’s core venture philanthropy work to accelerate the impact and scale of the most promising non-profit solutions advancing economic opportunity in America. Through New Profit’s Catalyze and Build support models, social entrepreneurs are selected for unrestricted capital, learning communities, coaching, and robust technical assistance from New Profit’s most senior partners. We anticipate growing our EM portfolio over the next several years. 

New Profit also invests in a deep field-building model to lift up learnings from social entrepreneurs in order to influence philanthropy and other systemic investments.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The summer associate on the Economic Mobility (EM) team plays a critical operational and strategic support role for many EM work streams. This role sees the “big picture” related to New Profit’s EM work– providing administrative and project management support to the EM Associate Partner and Managing Partner, helping to coordinate within and across New Profit’s teams, and supporting the operations of EM initiatives. 

New Profit is currently engaged in several time-bound projects related to EM, which this position would be deeply involved in. Additionally, as the number of portfolio investments in Economic Mobility increases, there is increasing opportunity for this role to influence pipeline development and insight generation across the EM portfolio of organizations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Pipeline Building 

  • In partnership with select portfolio staff, support the development and expansion of a pipeline list of potentially eligible organizations for Economic Mobility portfolio in Salesforce. Components of this work may include:
    • Identify best practices for pipeline tool use in service of investment selection 
    • Identify network nodes in target communities across the US 
    • Identify conferences and events for Associate Partner and Managing Partner to attend in underrepresented communities 
    • Create standard outreach plan; track and facilitate outreach and next steps 

Insight Generation:

  • In partnership with select portfolio staff, summer associate will engage in support of “insight generation” across New Profit’s EM portfolio. Analyses may support enhancements to current internal processes, as well as dissemination of findings through external publication(s) in service of field building. Activities may include:
    • Cross-team learning agenda to guide coordination and measurement of EM learning goals and outcomes
    • Trend analyses of past and current Catalyze organizations
    • Analyses of Catalyze and Build applicant pools for key trends related to: organizational models and approaches, geographic focus, factors related to highly rated organizations, approaches to measuring impact, financial capabilities, etc. 

As Needed, Operational Support and Execution

  • Support Associate Partner and Managing Partner on occasion with:
    • Presentations, reports and  communications
    • Organization and material management 
    • Preparation and follow up from “critical path” meetings (e.g., with partners, investors and other funders, and with the senior management team).

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum  completion of undergraduate sophomore year by June 2025 — also welcome recent recipients of a Bachelors with interest in the philanthropic sector and/or expressed interest in graduate school
  • Interest in the arts, humanities, and social justice in a nonprofit setting
  • Basic familiarity with qualitative research methods and/or data storytelling and data visualization
  • Ability to take direction and also to work with minimal direct supervision
  • Able to juggle multiple tasks and pay attention to detail
  • Discretion to handle confidential information with sensitivity and integrity
  • First generation college students are strongly encouraged to apply.

SALARY
We are currently hiring for an intern starting salary: $19.89/hour. The level is commensurate with years of experience and skill set and your salary will reflect that.
