New Profit is a nonprofit venture philanthropy organization that backs breakthrough social entrepreneurs who are advancing equity and opportunity in America. New Profit’s strategy focuses on building a breakthrough portfolio of grantee-partners to take on entrenched systemic challenges in America, including by driving resources and support to Black, Indigenous, and Latino/a/x social entrepreneurs who have unique proximity to solutions, but face stark racial funding disparities in philanthropy; and investing in social entrepreneurs with new systems change models across a range of issues. We have loved the influence, support, and energy of our interns over the years and are excited to select and welcome another cohort! Our internships are placed in various parts of our organization, but each opportunity offers exposure to an aspect of program, external affairs, or operational management to help you develop skills, knowledge, and relationships that ideally aid your career path. America Forward is the DC-based nonpartisan policy initiative of New Profit, a pioneering national venture philanthropy fund that seeks to break down barriers between all people and opportunity in America. America Forward’s mission is to unite social innovators with policymakers to translate local impact into national change.  Since 2007, America Forward has been advancing a public policy agenda that advances equity, fosters innovation, rewards results, and catalyzes cross-sector partnerships. The America Forward Coalition includes more than 100 social innovation organizations that champion innovative, effective, and efficient solutions to our country's most pressing social problems. Our Coalition members are driving progress in early learning, K-12 education, post-secondary education, workforce development, poverty alleviation, public health, Pay for Success, evidence-based policy, social innovation, national service, and criminal justice reform.  
The America Forward Intern will provide support to America Forward, the nonpartisan policy initiative of New Profit.  The intern will contribute to American Forward's strategic goals by contributing to critical parts of America Forward's work and providing support on a number of engagement activities, including America Forward's work and providing support on a number of engagement activities, including American Forward's Federal Collective Advocacy, Coalition Advocacy Capacity-Building, and our External Engagement.
More specifically, in 2022, the America Forward team will execute and host a number of activities related to these priorities.


  • Conducting research to inform America Forward’s policy development and collective advocacy work; 
  • Helping plan and/or attending (virtual) briefings on Capitol Hill; 
  • Conducting research to inform America Forward’s advocacy capacity building work;
  • Planning and attending (virtual) advocacy trainings and Hill Days; 
  • Contributing to congressional and administration outreach efforts; 
  • Contributing to Coalition communications efforts; 
  • Supporting the management of the America Forward Coalition; and 
  • Providing office and administrative support
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and successfully manage multiple priorities and projects while driving toward deadlines
  • “Can do” personality and enjoys working with a diverse group of stakeholders
  • Experience and/or knowledge of, or strong desire to know more about, the United States federal and state government systems and policies  
  • Policy background or interest in any of the following; education or workforce policy, systems change, federal budget/appropriations issues, leading nonprofit organizations
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator
  • Committed to high-quality work product and attention to detail
