TEAM OVERVIEW - PORTFOLIO
The Portfolio Performance and Support (PPS) team’s focus is to identify and support a portfolio of organizations demonstrating outstanding performance in four key areas: impact, equity and proximity, leadership, and sustainability. Our role is to identify the most promising social entrepreneurs and organizations for investment, ensure that we are providing them with excellent capacity building support, and develop and continually refine a set of tools and processes that support our grantees and the portfolio team in capturing their progress and our value add.
POSITION OVERVIEW
This specific position represents a key member of the “Support and Learn” (S&L) sub-function within the PPS team. The S&L team is responsible for developing and evolving our grantee support model, creating tools, and developing training for internal team members and our grantee partners on issues of capacity building (strategy, board development, leadership, etc). The Manager, Portfolio - Support & Learn will support a broad range of these aforementioned activities, and provide critical project management across work streams. This role reports to the partner of PPS’ Support & Learn function.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Knowledge Management & Resource Creation (40%)
- Manage and develop the systems, structures, and processes by which internal learning and improvement opportunities are identified, prioritized, activated, and integrated into New Profit’s work
- In partnership with other S&L team members, source and drive codification of best practices and insights from across the portfolio and field of social entrepreneurship
- Develop relevant high quality and accessible content (e.g., presentations, one-pagers, training, etc.) in service of New Profits’ grantee support work
- Drive partnerships with internal and external stakeholders on key projects including strategic planning, board development, and other areas relevant to New Profit’s grantee support model
- Portfolio Support (40%)
- In partnership with the S&L team, co-develop, plan and implement regular training sessions, group learning discussions, and grantee support deep-dives for New Profit deal partners
- Support implementation of partner meetings including development of content (pre-reads, facilitation guides, etc), communicating with relevant stakeholders, and where appropriate facilitating full or small group conversations
- Integrate lessons learned, emergent trends, and questions surfaced from partner meetings with New Profit’s Learning and Improvement work, advancing codification of new insights and tools
- Project Oversight and Management (20%)
- Lead project management, coordination and operational support for the sub-function across multiple concurrent work streams ensuring alignment with Portfolio team goals and objectives
- In partnership with team members, develop and implement innovative infrastructure (e.g., new meeting spaces, cross-team pull ups), processes (e.g., process flows for portfolio trend identification and tool codification), and systems to support the overall goals and impact of the S&L subfunction

- Demonstrated commitment to New Profit’s mission of breaking down barriers to opportunity for our country’s most overlooked communities
- Experience designing and facilitating learning conversations at multiple altitudes with a focus on human centered design and best practices of adult learning
- Highly-relational with an ability to communicate reliably and effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, both verbally and in writing
- Advanced project management experience, highly organized and detail-oriented.
- Ability to analyze complex situations, break them down into management components, and identify the most impactful solutions
- Ability and willingness to switch between work that requires high level strategic thinking, and work that is more focused on logistics, operations and execution
- Adaptable and able to manage multiple, changing priorities and stakeholders
- Sharp analytical skills that allow you to quickly assess situations, identify trends, develop insights and solutions, and apply learnings to a larger context
- Relevant professional experience preferred (e.g., nonprofits, philanthropy, management consulting, venture capital) and / or advanced degree (e.g., MBA, MPA)
SALARY
The salary range for the Manager position will be $97,050 - $107,203 annually, with the exact salary depending on prior work experience and the assessment of one's fit for the role. Additionally, New Profit provides a suite of competitive benefits including health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, retirement benefits, and a generous PTO policy with an end-of-year holiday break.
