New Profit is a pioneering venture philanthropy organization that invests in breakthrough leaders and systems change initiatives. We work arm in arm with social entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and other change-makers to break down barriers to opportunity in America.

New Profit’s strategy focuses on building a portfolio of outstanding grantee-partners to take on entrenched systemic challenges in America, including by driving resources and support to Black, Indigenous, and Latino/a/x social entrepreneurs who have unique proximity to solutions, but face stark racial funding disparities in philanthropy; and investing in social entrepreneurs with new systems change models across a range of issues.

In 2014, we created New Profit’s Catalyze Investments to address the significant lack of investment in organizations with leaders and focus areas that have historically been underinvested in, such as democracy reform and criminal justice. Through Catalyze Investments, we identify and invest in high potential early-stage organizations led by diverse social entrepreneurs working in historically underinvested areas. We also build organizations’ capacity to accelerate their growth and transition to mid-stage organizations. To date, we have supported 88 organizations across over 10 cohorts and have deployed $6M+ in direct investments.

New Profit stands shoulder-to-shoulder with social entrepreneurs in support of their vision, with a specific focus on helping them build the capacity of their organizations in four areas: 1) Impact 2) Equity & Proximity, 3) Adaptive Leadership, and 4) Sustainability.

Catalyze Investments offers a synergistic support model to work with and towards the needs of each organization, creating value across several dimensions. This includes a peer learning community in each cohort, 1:1 personal coaching for the social entrepreneur, consultations with external content experts, and New Profit’s tested capacity building framework and tools, as well as $100,000 in unrestricted support.

Catalyze investments sits alongside Build Investments. Through our Build Investments, New Profit provides grantee-partners a $1M+ multi-year, unrestricted grant and deep advisory support. A dedicated New Profit Deal Partner serves as a trusted advisor to the social entrepreneur and as a member of the organization’s board of directors. Our support is geared towards building the leadership capacity of social entrepreneurs, boards, and senior teams and their ability to make strategic choices as they navigate change and growth.
